Having looked at Sorcerers, and their costumes and attire let’s take a look at the difference between Sorcerers, Wizards, Witches, Warlocks and Mages (another word for Magicians).

A Sorcerer, can be male or female, is someone who has the knowledge to draw upon the magical energies within themselves, their surrounding environment, or channel the magic flow from another person. Anyone who is prepared to learn and is able to take the strain of channeling magical energy can become a sorcerer.

A Wizard – “male only”, the term originating from the old Anglo-Saxon term “wysard” or wise one, is a lore-master of arcane knowledge – in other words the wizard’s knowledge requires secret knowledge to be understood, like deciphering a code, as well as being a magical practitioner.

A Witch practices witchcraft – the alleged use of magical or supernatural magical powers which can be used to perform either good, such as healing people or bad – casting evil spells. Often thought of as being practiced by Women in fact witchcraft is practiced by both men and women.

A Warlock or “oath breaker”, often incorrectly thought of as a male witch, is in fact a person who betrays the trust of a coven – a gathering of witches or vampires. In the fantasy world a Warlock, male or female is a combination of Mage and Warrior. A person skilled in the art of physical combat who can also cast spells.

The Mage is an intellectual master and elemental energies (mana) manipulator. Only those trained in the art of magic can absorb, store and channel these energies. Mages can control and change the world in which we live through the use of magic.

Spells and Sorcery – does it all really exist?

People who choose not to believe in spells probably do not believe or wish to acknowledge metaphysics or what they feel might be connected in some way to religion. It could also be their unawareness of the reality beyond our physical existence. The only ‘solid’ proof we really have is when someone we know either directly or indirectly has had some kind of fit, their eyes fixated to a point in the room while being physically rigid. Medical doctors cannot find anything wrong with them and it takes someone who you might call a ‘whit witch’ to recite some incantations and perform other rituals to relieve the patient from their affliction.
